Phantom Ship
Description:
This craggy isle in Crater Lake in south-central Oregon, USA, is an excellent example of an exposed volcanic dike. Molten lava flows into an underground crack, then cools and hardens. The frozen lava, being harder than the surrounding rock, withstands weathering while the other rock wears away over the centuries.
